GrooveJoint defines Rock with Rhythm. Not a Jam
Band but a Band that can Jam. GrooveJoint’s
driving rhythm combines new Rock with Reggae, Latin, Hip-Hop, Funk,
and World Music. With Lyrics of Unity and Peace, positive vibes
and festive grooves flow through the growing crowd wherever GrooveJoint
performs.
Formed in 2001, GrooveJoint played
their first show, Friday, September 13th, 2002 at a club appropriately
named the One Love Music and Dancehall, in Athens, Georgia. Within
eight months they were headlining at The Georgia Theatre on the
last day of finals for The University of Georgia. The Georgia Theatre
is Athens’ largest venue, which has hosted everyone from,
Willie Nelson, R.E.M, and The Wailers, to 311, Drivin’ and
Cryin’, and Widespread Panic.
After playing endless shows
throughout the remainder of 2003, the band took 2004 off from playing
live shows to readjust their personal lives. Dave graduated from
The University of Georgia and found a job in Athens. Jon began attending
Gainesville College just outside of Athens, while Ryan continued
to hone his skills on Bass. Casey took a scholarship at The University
of South Carolina to play classical guitar.
In July, August, and September of
2004, refreshed, determined, and ambitious, GrooveJoint entered
Pigpen Studios in Athens, Georgia to record their debut album One-Life
Epic. Co-produced by Daniel Maldanado Collins, and Mastered by Rodney
Mills Masterhouse, (Mills who has worked with Rage Against the Machine,
Pearl Jam, etc.) One-Life Epic is a crowning achievement and testament
to the seriousness, and level of skill that GrooveJoint showcases.
For the remainder of 2004 GrooveJoint, ate, slept, and breathed
the songs from One-Life Epic in preparation for the upcoming 2005
year when they would release their debut album and begin again to
play and bring rhythm and meaning back into the world of Rock.
Their Album, One-Life Epic, was released
Friday, February 18th, 2005 at a CD Release Party and Show at the
newly opened and remodeled The Ritz. Ironic, as well as Symbolic,
The Ritz is the same club that was once the One Love Music and Dancehall.
Reborn and Rising high, GrooveJoint has returned and is now out
to make their name known, respected, and loved in the world of Rock.
David Titshaw :
I find peace in a mountain stream and feel life is
an ocean's current. Nature keeps a tempo of its own. Fast and Slow.
Smooth and staccato. Always Concious. I just try to imitate those
rhythms in our songs.
I infinitely love the following:
Sarah, the sunrise over the ocean, my eccentric family, my funny-ass
friends, Jimi Hendrix, the characters in our band, long walks in
a field, long sits on a porch, drums and bass, System of a Down,
The Simpsons, Outkast, my dog - Holly, Reggae music, TechNine, The
History Channel, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Bob Hope, Athens, GA, The
Red Hot Chili Peppers, South Park, green bud, Conan O'Brien, Sarah's
dog Hank, 311, Guns N' Roses, The Taco Stand in Athens, Native American
culture, The Geto Boys, old buildings, Bad Brains, Negro Modelo,
Willie Nelson, Dave Chapelle, binge partying, laughing, street musicians,
Sublime, river rocks, sea shells, college football, college basketball,
the energy of a crowd lost in music, John Frusciante, The Atlanta
Braves, peace pipes, sleep, Mexican food, Johnny Cash, not having
a 9 to 5 job, Tool, The United States of America, Cold Stone ice
cream, The Southeast, everyday, every life.
Jonathan Titshaw :
I have been playing drums since ‘96. I then
began learning bass and guitar. I played drums with Casey Smith
and Chase Pursely on guitar, and in 2000 David joined in the group.
After a few bass players Ryan joined in 2002 and has been with us
since then. Casey and Chase are no longer with us but we continue
to play. I recorded the drums and guitar for the One-Life Epic
album and I hope everyone enjoys what they hear. Since it is impossible
to top David's bio I will keep mine short and end by saying, SEE
YOU AT THE SHOWS.
Ryan Schultz :
"Wow...I can't believe we are finally doin'
it. The album is done and I couldn't be happier. After everything
we have been through, it's really falling into place now. Funny
how things work like that. Life moves so fast sometimes and we forget
about the things that are so important. So lately, I've been trying
to stop, take a breath, and look around at the beauty I tend to
forget about. I like to think that playing music is an outlet like
that. A breath of fresh air. Ecstacy. For me, this album, and all
our music, has been a culmination of so many emotions that have
been released. So now these emotions are exposed. I'd like to think
that people can feel that emotion and ffor those four minutes of
song connect with me on an entirly different level. Maybe one day
I'll touch someone like that. If we don't ever sell any records,
but our music meant something to someone, somewhere, well that makes
it all worth it. Man, I love self-expression. Not just music either,
sometime in the future I plan to publish my first novel...and my
first movie.. I'd also like to put out some of my artwork, maybe
even some photography...So much ambition, so little time. Wow, are
you still reading this? I like to rant :) Being a musician means
that music beats from within my very soul'...Just like David says
in sound check..Live it, breath it, love it. I'm so glad that our
music is something I love listening to, because, well, if I didn't,
I guess you could say that I would be dying in a sense...or not...gettin'
too deep even for me here...I fell like this band is on a wild ride
and we are just gettin' our engines revved . And for once I am not
afraid to throw myself blindly into whatever the future brings us.
It's my Cloud (. Anyways, thanks for listenin' to my soap box diary.
More will come, I guarantee it. Lata. |
